Garick Acquires Tarheel Bark of North Carolina

03/29/07

(CLEVELAND, OH) Garick, a nationwide distributor and processor of sustainable natural resource products, is proud to announce the acquisition of Tarheel Bark, located in Harrisburg, North Carolina.  Garick acquired Tarheel Bark from Baucom's Nursery Co.; the deal was finalized earlier this week.

Baucom's Nursery founded Tarheel Bark in 1985 to support the company's growing floriculture operations.  Today, Tarheel produces growing media, mulches, soils, and organic materials to hundreds of customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and other areas in the Southeast, United States.  Garick will continue selling to Tarheel's current customer base as well as continue to provide Baucom's Nursery with its specific custom mixes.

Garick prides itself on its commitment to the environment by accepting organic green waste and recycling it into reusable compost products. Garick saw an opportunity in Tarheel Bark because of the similar operations to its existing manufacturing facilities.  Like Garick's other facilities, Tarheel accepts organic green waste and uses it to produce mulches and soils.  These mulches and soils are then either placed in bags or sold in bulk.

Gary P. Trinetti, President of Garick, says, "With the addition of Tarheel Bark, Garick now has the capabilities to supply the entire Southeast market with our outstanding line of branded products, including Nature's Helper®, Black Satin® Mulch, Designated Dryer®, HydRocks®, Kids Karpet®, and Moo-Nure®.  We are excited to continue on our mission of being Nature's Helper and ‘Enhancing People's Lives and the EnvironmentTM'."

The acquisition of Tarheel Bark is the second acquisition for Garick in the past four months.  In December 2006, Garick finalized the acquisition of New Milford Farms in New Milford, Connecticut. "There is a need for expansion into other areas of the United States to service our existing customer base and growth in the green industry," Trinetti said.

In January 2007, Hendricks Holding Company, Inc. acquired Garick.  Ken Hendricks, owner of Hendricks Holding Company, Inc., also owns ABC Supply Co., Inc., which is the largest wholesale distributor of roofing and siding materials, tools, and supplies in the United States. Since its conception in 1982, ABC Supply has grown to include a number of different companies in over 350 locations in 45 states.   Hendricks believes in recycling and organics management and feels Garick will be a great fit along with his logistics company and several river barge terminals he owns.

Garick, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, services the landscape, recreation, lawn, garden, and construction industries.  Garick prides its self on its commitment to sustainability and environmental practices.  Using food, lawn, and forest waste byproducts, Garick diverts hundreds of thousands of tons of organic waste from landfills and reproduces it into organic mulches and soils.  Garick's composting facilities are Paygro® in South Charleston, Ohio; Smith Garden Products® in Cumming, Georgia; and New Milford Farms® in New Milford, Connecticut.  These facilities make nationally branded products Nature's Helper® organic soil amendment, Black Satin® Mulch, Designated DryerTM sports turf conditioner, Hydrocks® soil enhancer, Kids Karpet® recreational surfacing, and Moo-Nure® organic compost. With these composting facilities and other terminals and ports located throughout the United States, Garick has the capability to supply a complete range of products in bags, bales, or bulk.
